The Nothing Phone (1) is receiving a software update that unlocks a bunch of new features and capabilities, including support for Jio 5G. The Nothing OS update available in India and other markets is 62.04 in size, and it even improves camera capabilities. Users will get the OTA (over-the-air) automatically, but you can check the availability by heading to Settings > System update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the official changelog, the Nothing Phone (1) now supports Google AR Core, which is a development kit developed by Google to allow the device to run AR (augmented reality) applications. Nothing is also adding some minor tweaks, such as an improved Launcher and recording light indicator. Another notable feature included in the latest Android 12-based NothingOS 1.1.6 is increased brightness when displaying HDR content. The company had earlier clarified that the phone’s brightness was capped at 700 nits instead of the advertised 1,200 nits. It said the “decision was made to ensure a balanced user experience regarding heat and battery consumption”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As mentioned, Nothing is adding Jio 5G support to its smartphone. It means users in eligible circles – Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Varanasi will soon be able to enjoy 5G internet whenever it is ready. Recently, more smartphones by other OEMs started receiving 5G support from telcos, even though the devices include a 5G modem. Airtel had offered a clarification regarding this, and it said its 5G rollout is going on, but the smartphone OEMs need to roll out an update to ensure their phone supports the particular network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three OnePlus phones, which include OnePlus 10 Pro, the OnePlus 10T, and the OnePlus 10R\u00a0received support for Jio 5G<\/a>\u00a0last week. The trio already support Airtel 5G Plus. An Airtel page shows that Nothing Phone (1) already supports Airtel 5G.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
